If someone has given you transact rights on their TreasuryDirect securities, you can redeem those holdings straight from your own account. Here’s the process, step by step.
Log into your primary TreasuryDirect account and go to the ManageDirect tab. Look for the Manage My Shared Securities section and click “Redeem a security”.
The Redemption page lists every security you have transact rights for, sorted alphabetically by the grantor’s last name. Locate the one you want to redeem, click the button next to its confirmation number, and hit “Submit”.
On the Redemption Request page, you’ll choose how much to redeem. The default is the full amount, which will already be selected. If you’d rather take out a portion, select the partial amount option and type in a dollar figure — just keep in mind there’s a $25 minimum for what you redeem, and the security’s remaining balance must also be at least $25 after the transaction.
If you have more than one bank account linked to your account, use the dropdown menu to choose where the money should go. Click “Submit” when you’re ready.
A review page will come up showing the details of your redemption. Give everything a look, and if anything needs to be fixed, click “Edit” to go back. When everything looks right, click “Submit” to complete the request.
Once it goes through, a confirmation page will appear — worth printing or saving for your records.
