How to Edit a Bank Account on TreasuryDirect

Help Home

Editing a bank account on TreasuryDirect isn’t fully self-service — you can’t just log in and change things on your own. That said, some changes are a lot simpler than others.

Some Changes Just Take a Phone Call

If what you need falls into any of these categories, skip the paperwork and call instead:

The number is (844) 284-2676. When you call, press 3 at the first menu, then 3 again at the second. It’s a much faster route than going through a paper form, so it’s worth picking up the phone if you can.

For Everything Else, There’s a Form

Some changes — or situations where calling isn’t practical — will require you to go the paper route:

  1. Log into your TreasuryDirect account, find the bank account in question, select its radio button, and click Edit.
  2. This takes you to the ManageDirect » Bank Change Form Request page, which has a link to download FS Form 5512, the Bank Change Request form.
  3. Print and fill out the form, then bring it to a bank, trust company, or credit union. An authorized certifying official at one of those institutions needs to sign off on it in person. One important caveat: a Notary Public won’t work here — TreasuryDirect is specific about the institution types they accept.
  4. Mail the signed, certified form to TreasuryDirect along with any supporting documents they require.

The change doesn’t go into effect until TreasuryDirect reviews and approves what you’ve sent in. Once they’ve processed everything, you’ll receive a confirmation email.
