When a minor account holder gets old enough to manage their own TreasuryDirect account, you’ll need to de-link their account from yours. Before you sit down to do this, track down the former minor’s new TreasuryDirect account number — the process will stop dead without it.
1. Log in and go to ManageDirect Sign into your primary TreasuryDirect account and click the ManageDirect tab at the top of the page.
2. Find the de-linking option Look for the Manage My Linked Accounts section and click “De-Link a Linked Account.”
3. Select the account You’ll see a list of linked accounts. Select the button next to the minor account you’re removing and hit Submit.
4. Enter the new account number The site will ask for the former minor’s primary TreasuryDirect account number. Enter it and click Submit.
5. Review the details A summary page will come up showing the pending changes. Read through it carefully, and once you’ve confirmed everything looks right, click Submit one last time.
6. Save your confirmation After the de-link goes through, a confirmation page will load. Print it or write down the relevant details — you’ll want that on file as your record that the transfer was completed.
