How to Create a Custom Linked Account in TreasuryDirect

Help Home

Custom linked accounts in TreasuryDirect let you keep separate holdings organized under their own account while still logging in the same way you normally would. If you’ve been meaning to set one up, the process is pretty straightforward.

Creating the Account

Start by logging into your primary TreasuryDirect account and clicking the ManageDirect tab at the top of the page. From there, find the Manage My Linked Accounts section and click “Establish a Custom Linked Account”.

On the next page, you’ll fill in the Give Your Account a Name field. Pick something specific enough that you’ll actually be able to tell your accounts apart later. Then decide on your email preference — you can either use the same email address tied to your primary account or enter a separate one for this account specifically.

Your banking information will carry over from your primary account automatically, so you don’t need to re-enter anything. If you ever need to change those details, you’ll find instructions for doing so once the account exists. When you’re ready, read through the statements under the Submission section and click “Submit”.

Finding Your Way Around

After the account is created, you can check which account you’re currently in by glancing at the top right corner of the Account Info page. The custom account’s name and its TreasuryDirect account number will both appear there, along with two arrows that signal you’re inside a linked account rather than your primary one.

To get back to your primary account, click the link just above the custom account number.
